Yesterday, we took the kids to a friend's ranch and saw a stampede of 31 goats.
Today on my parents' hill I found myself amid a stampede of butterflies.
Both wonderous fun.
kat is my coworker, and this article is about her heroic efforts in Galveston: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/hurricane/ike/6012218.html
We're still hanging in the hill country. We'll find out more about the status of our house later in the week but it looks like we're going to have to find a new home. Could be worse. One coworker lost everything in a fire, one lost everything when her house collapsed, others have lost family members. We feel very fortunate to be enjoying our "evacuation vacation" near family and new friends.
The kids went through a sleepwalking/night terror spell, but that seems to be resolving as we settle in here and reestablish a sort of daily routine. We've been terrible about taking photos, but I'll post a few when we get to it. You won't believe how the kids have grown. I think they've matured more than a picture can show, but it's really incredible how these kinds of situations give them a kind of internal growth spurt.
Hugs all around!
